✈️ Getting to Koh Samui

By Air

Bangkok Airways operates multiple daily flights from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and other Thai cities. Flight time: 1 hr 15 min from Bangkok. The airport is famously open-air and charming.

By Ferry from Surat Thani

• Raja Ferry: Donsak Pier → Koh Samui (Lipa Noi), 1.5 hours. Departs every 1–2 hours, 06:00–21:00. ฿150 passenger + ฿500+ vehicle.
• Seatran Ferry: Donsak Pier → Ban Don Pier, 1 hour. Passenger: ฿200.
• Night Boat: Surat Thani town → Ban Don Pier, overnight. Departs 23:00. ฿200 (deck) — good for budget travellers.

🏖️ Best Beaches

Chaweng Beach

The most famous and lively beach on the island — a 7 km strip of white sand with crystal-clear water, lined with resorts, restaurants, bars, and beach clubs. Busy and buzzing day and night.

Lamai Beach

Second most popular, slightly less developed than Chaweng. Decent snorkelling at both ends of the bay. Rocky southern end has the famous Hin Ta Hin Yai (grandfather and grandmother rocks).

Bophut (Fisherman's Village)

On the north coast — a boutique strip of restored Chinese shophouses turned into restaurants, bars, and galleries. Friday Walking Street is one of the best markets on the island. Quiet beach, great for families.

Maenam Beach

Long, shady, and uncrowded stretch on the north coast. Calm water — great for families with young children. Has a good Saturday Night Market.

• Rent a scooter (฿200/day) or car (฿1,200–1,500/day) — public transport is limited.
• Tap water is not drinkable; use filtered water.
• Book accommodation well in advance for December–January, Songkran (April), and Chinese New Year.
• The Full Moon Party is on Koh Phangan (a short ferry hop away) — combine a Samui trip with one if the dates align.
